Crowds gathered at the newly minted Stamper Park Family Aquatic Center for its grand opening on Saturday. Parks and Recreation Director John Albertson welcomed everyone after which he called upon Pastor Willie Marshall to kick start the ceremony with a prayer.

DEDICATION CEREMONY
Opening Prayer: Pastor Marshall led a prayer, expressing gratitude for the vision, resources, hard work, and wise stewardship that brought the aquatic center to fruition.
He blessed the facility, all who would use it, the staff and lifeguards, praying it would be a place for meeting, relaxation, and fun for the Longview community.
District 2 City Councilwoman Shannon Moore’s Remarks: Councilwoman Moore delivered an emotional speech, acknowledging the “long journey” to establish the center. She expressed pride for the community and city, emphasizing the unity required to overcome challenges. She extended thanks to supporters, those who prayed for her, and both current and past council members, stating the project wouldn’t have been possible without their collective efforts.
“I am proud for this city. I am proud for the unity that it took to get here through all the stumbling blocks, through all the people that supported my vision, who prayed for me, who came out and fought with me,” said Moore. “I thank the current council, the past council, because without them, this couldn’t have been possible. You know, I might have fought for it, but I couldn’t have done it without them. And I thank you all for supporting this journey, and I thank the city of Longview.”
Ribbon cutting and first activities: Following the speeches, a ribbon-cutting ceremony took place. Attendees were then invited to enter the facility, with Councilwoman Moore, Mayor Kristin Ishihara testing out water slides first.

The Aquatic Center is located at 501 Fair Street. It is open to all Longview families Monday to Saturday from 12noon to 6pm
